I began the painting when a friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but before I could tell her what I was working on for her, she passed. As such, a portion of its sale will go toward a nonprofit that aids in the bills of cancer patients.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI wanted a smooth sea- slightly unruly in nature but silky smooth just the same- to be contrasted by the spiky purple thistles. The sun is bright and it appears to be actually glowing. There is so much texture in this piece that if you view it from an angle, you can see the layers built up. It has deep scratches in the layers to bring out colors underneath. The flowers were created with a combination of scratching and paint. This painting took many, many hours and many, many layers. It was a true labor of love and one I am so very proud of.
