We thought we were saying goodbye last summer, and this year we graciously and miraculously celebrated Mother’s Day. My mom lives a few hours away, so the guilt of not being there for every second eats away at me. Thankfully, she knows I have to work and understands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is what this song means to me- an astronaut on a home planet, yet still feeling like an alien and second-guessing their path… afraid to take off the helmet for fear of the unknown, even though the moon and the viewer knows it’s safe to do so.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe moon watches and guides, no matter the distance… earthly or heavenly.\u003cbr\u003eAn otherworldly, ever-constant presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eIn many cultures across the world, the Milky Way is regarded as a \"road of souls\" and that has always brought comfort to my grief. As such, I paired the bright, ethereal moon with the colorful haze of the Milky Way and twinkling stars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere are nods to my own life in the painting: palm fronds, marsh grass, my favorite time of day (twilight) when the moon is rising and bright but the sky isn't quite completely dark yet.\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis was a challenging painting, but one I'm very proud of.
