I spent hours alongside him, speaking to him gently while awaiting rescue. Though he could still fly, he didn't leave my side. In the end, he didn't make it through the night. I felt honored he spent his last few hours of life beside me, trusting me not to hurt him. The volunteers worked hard to save him, and one even risked his life and limb after Charlie flew into a known alligator-infested pond once they arrived. He was safely captured and spent his night in warm blankets before passing in his sleep.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCharlie, and the selfless volunteers, reminded me how precious every single life is, and how important it is to look out for those who may not be able to look out for themselves, or to ever thank you.
