Painted/named from a poem by Louise Kaufmann.

The trees are stretching out to one another, barely touching, but touching nonetheless. The background is purposefully foggy, while the foreground is illuminated by the light. The palms, lovingly called "swamp palms" (my favorite kind), are thriving through murky waters. The pluff mud glistens in the moonlight. This is a scene I made up in my mind, filled with much symbolism. I created it to process heavy emotions and a hopeful horizon. I like to think it symbolizes two people who are connected by a tragedy. trauma or grief, finding the light together (the two trees reaching out to touch below the moonlight. While I often work from photos, this scene was one I made up entirely in my mind for the specific goal of representing the aforementioned metaphor.

A kind viewer summed it up best: “The darkness of your background along with some of your words reminds me that pain ought to be pushed as far away from us as doable, and in so acknowledging it in that place, we use our faith and hope to receive the joys of no pain, along with the new light that blesses us so. Your painting is so meaningful.”
