Kayla DeVito is an oil painter living in the ever-inspiring marsh of Beaufort, SC. While battling depression due to Late-Stage Lyme Disease, Kayla taught herself to paint to cope. She held her first art show in August 2021 and sold out of 40+ paintings in less than a week. Since then, she has continued to evolve and learned to draw upon her emotions to create works that are as layered in meaning as they are in paint. Most of her original works are painted from, or for, a literary piece. Thank you for your interest in these special he(art)works.

Most of Kayla's paintings are oil, and vary in substrate. Her paintings are made with quality canvases and professional-grade paints, and protected in an archival, UV-resistant varnish.

Fine art prints are giclée on Hahnemuhle paper- truly the highest quality paper prints you can buy. These are archival, museum-level reproductions.

Every original artwork is signed with a KD in the corner, Kayla's signature.

Each fine art paper print is numbered out of 50 and comes with a card of authenticity.

About The Artwork

Care Guide

Painted/named from an excerpt by R. M. Drake.

This is for anyone who's ever lost a soulmate pet, or another soul that left too soon.

I wanted an ethereal scene that showed a rainbow illuminated by a spot of bright light in an otherwise dark scene. I love that the light appears as if a bit of sunlight from a nearby window is making the bright spot but it's actually the paint. I've attempted for years to achieve this, and had a breakthrough with this painting. This one took me many months, and many layers of corrections and over-painting to get it 'right.'

While rainbows generally begin to disappear when the sun hits them, I wanted the rainbow to be constant and solid, a reminder to the viewer that love doesn't disappear just because it may not be tangible anymore. (For my Roscoe❤️ The dog that saved my life in my early twenties and we lost this past April. I'll grieve you forever, my love.)

Oil on deep canvas. 18" x 24", unframed with painted sides. Can be hung as-is.

All originals and prints come with the poem they’re named/painted from, in case you’d like to frame and hang it next to the art.

Pricing

Chosen prices are a direct correlation of time spent creating. Some paintings take 10 hours and some take several months of 60+ hours of work plus dry times between layers. The value, rarity and ornateness of each frame (or lack thereof) is also taken into account.

Prints

Fine art prints will be made available for this painting in December. Please sign up for my email newsletter at the bottom of this page to be notified of its release.

To preserve the beauty and longevity of your artwork, keep away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperature changes. Paintings and prints should only be displayed and stored in stable environments, to avoid warp of canvas stretcher bars or paper.

Handle all pieces with care using clean, dry hands, and avoid contact with liquids or harsh chemicals. For maintenance, gently dust surfaces with a soft cloth. Proper care will help maintain the color, texture, and integrity of each piece for years to come.
