"Asunder III" Oil Painting - 20" x 16"

The Inspiration

I created this painting to symbolize an unplanned life- one derailed by chronic illness, trauma, infertility, mental illness, grief, or one that simply hasn’t met expectations- and how one has to allow the two lives- both planned and unplanned- to meld together to find true joy through heartache.

I wanted it to feel as if a plan was laid out, then torn from a journal as if it didn't pan out, and another plan was then made visible because of that courageous act: symbolizing faith taking over a life unplanned, and revealing joy as a reward.

I titled this painting, Asunder, a word from Old English that has several meanings: "torn apart or in separate pieces," and "to distinguish or tell apart."
