"Conquered" Oil Painting - 19" x 15"
A bright moon reflects strongly on the water of a calm marsh. Original oil painting on canvas panel by Kayla DeVito. Named from the poem "Courage" by Olivia Ann Rose.
I particularly love this painting because it is difficult to get a light so bright in a painting. Sometimes other artists heavily edit their photos of their paintings to brighten light sources. If you're familiar at all with photography or editing, they "blow out" the highlights so it appears the light is glowing, when in person, the painting does not look the same.
This painting is one of my brightest, most glowing- no heavy editing ever used to alter the glow. I'm proud of how bright I got the light- it's my brightest yet and deserved a name to reflect not only this feat in painting, but to represent struggles with mental health despite one's dark circumstances. I also did something unusual with this piece and began with a bold magenta underpainting. As I painted on top, I felt led to leave the pink showing through in some areas. I feel it greatly enhances the overall feel of hopefulness of the painting.
The frame is handcrafted Peruvian walnut chosen and created specifically for this painting by Kayla's husband and fine woodworker, Matt. The density of this exotic hardwood adds a beautiful, quality weight to the overall feel of the art piece.
Painting measures 14" x 18". Frame measures 19.25" x 15.125"
