Painted/named from a quote by Claude Monet.

The Inspiration:

I wanted to fill these frames with a color palette that reflected the South of France. When I began painting, I realized Monet's works, in particular, were a huge inspiration behind them.

When I was teaching in France this past Spring, I became incredibly, unbelievably ill. Upon my return to the US, I learned my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer... her 4th battle with the ugly disease. While conversing with doctors on my own gastrointestinal condition, and having been diagnosed with pre-cancerous polyps in my 20s, I was overcome with grief in more ways than one. I was bed-bound for some time, more so for grief and despair than anything else. When I finally began to take care of my mental health, I felt drawn to start a garden, something I've never felt led to do before (mostly because people say I have a "black thumb" and struggle with keeping plants alive...)

I spent the summer finding solace and comfort in doing something that had no financial benefit- tending plants. I didn't realize it could do for me what painting has also done: my loud brains quiets down to a whisper when my hands are deep in soil.

I knew I had to tie this theme into these new works for these French frames. I sourced these frames quite literally just before sh!t hit the fan, so it was only fitting that these garden-bright colors found their way into these images. As we all know, Monet was well-known to become lost in his garden for hours, painting and tending. I hope these scenes transport your brain to a place of peace.

The Details:

Frame is 8" x 6" and features the original mauve fabric loop for hanging.

Oil on custom hardboard, in an antique frame found at a market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France. Frame dates to 1887 and was originally for holding a military cabinet card.

All originals and prints come with the literature they’re named/painted from, in case you’d like to frame and hang it next to the art.

Looser style with bolder brush strokes. Texture is visible in many of the paintings. My goal was beauty without perfectionism, much like a garden.
