Painted/named from a poem by Nikita Gill.
Honestly, I painted this from a place of deep depression after some failed treatments for my Late Stage Lyme Disease. In my head, depression has always been either a storm with the sun breaking through, but this time it felt like a grotto- deep, underground, unlikely to be stumbled on by anyone else. I wanted to depict what it feels like when you save yourself and find the sunlight again. This is that first moment, right after your eyes have adjusted from being in the dark for so long, and you can see the light for what it is called: Hope.
I don’t know if it translates on camera, but this painting has the most gorgeous colors with a base of warm, earthy greens, deep blue-blacks and rich green-taupes. I displayed it in my studio for a while as I decided on keeping or selling it. It looked so good against my pale blue-green-gray walls, black ceiling and touches of brass and cream. I think I subconsciously painted it for my studio! Alas, it is HUGE and takes up too much wall space in my small studio. Should you purchase this piece, please send me a photo when you get it situated in your home!
