Named/painted from a poem by Kristina Mahr.
Whew... let's see if I can get through this description without bawling.
This is a painting I started during a particularly low day of deep grief, right around Christmas. I wanted to paint Forget-Me-Not flowers but wanted them to feel ethereal, or, light in a way that seems too perfect for this world. These flowers symbolize a deep, unwavering love that lasts beyond death, with a history dating back to medieval Germany. I painted the entire scene incredibly dark, so that the tiny "star" centers seem to actually glow, acting as tiny guiding lights back to your loved one(s) who've passed.
I didn't want these flowers to feel real, but instead, as if they were from a dream. It's said that our dreams are where we can connect with the spirit realm the most, and I believe it, as I often look forward to dreaming so I can see my loved ones again. I hope this painting is your "dreaming while awake" moment as it was for me to paint it.
