I painted this scene with the marsh grass mostly in mind. I wanted something that represented resilience and growth through adversity. Marsh grass, specifically spartina, is constantly faced with challenges of fluctuating water levels, salinity changes and strong currents. Despite obstacles, it grows strong and green through the muck and mud.

The grass in this painting is my favorite I've ever created. It was made with layers and layers of different shades of paint, built up over time only as the previous layer dried (which takes a few days' time.) The texture of the grass catches the light nicely, and the sunlight on the left has a real glow to it.

Oil on deep canvas. 18" x 24" unframed with painted sides. Ready to hang.
