Named/painted from a poem by the same name.
I created this painting to symbolize things in life that we can’t change, and must find peace with, even through the feelings of frustration, anger, guilt, grief. It’s a symbol of forced optimism. While sometimes we may be strong, sometimes that’s the only option, so we push on, looking for the Light- the peace- to guide us.
The grass on this piece is my favorite. I created it with several techniques of layering translucent colors with a coarse brush, carving through the wet paint then wiping away some areas with a paper towel. The colors remind me a of Wyeth painting, but they’re the exact colors you get when a storm rolls through the marshlands (where I live.) Somehow the dark skies make the spartina grass much more vivid than normal. It’s a beautiful paradox.
Oil on deep canvas. 16” x 20” unframed with painted sides. Can be hung as-is.

Chosen prices are a direct correlation of time spent creating. Some paintings take 10 hours and some take several months of 60+ hours of work plus dry times between layers. The value, rarity and ornateness of each frame (or lack thereof) is also taken into account.
To preserve the beauty and longevity of your artwork, keep away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperature changes. Paintings and prints should only be displayed and stored in stable environments, to avoid warp of canvas stretcher bars or paper.
Handle all pieces with care using clean, dry hands, and avoid contact with liquids or harsh chemicals. For maintenance, gently dust surfaces with a soft cloth. Proper care will help maintain the color, texture, and integrity of each piece for years to come.
