Kayla DeVito is an oil painter living in the ever-inspiring marsh of Beaufort, SC. While battling depression due to Late-Stage Lyme Disease, Kayla taught herself to paint to cope. She held her first art show in August 2021 and sold out of 40+ paintings in less than a week. Since then, she has continued to evolve and learned to draw upon her emotions to create works that are as layered in meaning as they are in paint. Most of her original works are painted from, or for, a literary piece. Thank you for your interest in these special he(art)works.

Most of Kayla's paintings are oil, and vary in substrate. Her paintings are made with quality canvases and professional-grade paints, and protected in an archival, UV-resistant varnish.

Fine art prints are giclée on Hahnemuhle paper- truly the highest quality paper prints you can buy. These are archival, museum-level reproductions.

Every original artwork is signed with a KD in the corner, Kayla's signature.

Each fine art paper print is numbered out of 50 and comes with a card of authenticity.

About The Artwork

Care Guide

Named from a poem I wrote about imposter syndrome.

The Inspiration:

I've recently been dealing with feelings of inadequacy, especially in relation to art. This collection is comprised of 3 paintings that were sitting in storage for a few months, incomplete. Anytime I looked at them, I felt defeated, unsure if I'd ever have the skill to revive them.

Over the past few weeks, I've been able to paint a plethora of smaller works, which have built up my confidence again. Then, I received a very kind message from someone (who didn't know the feelings I'd been battling) who sent words of praise that pulled me out of my slump. That afternoon, her message rang through my head like a ship's brass bell going off, beckoning me to keep painting lest I lose myself further. I dug these 3 paintings out of storage and promised myself I'd make them something to be proud of. It took some hard work, but it also felt effortless (oh, the beautiful paradox of creating art.)

I'm proud to say these are some of my favorite works I've created to date, all thanks to a stranger's kindness on the internet. It costs nothing to spread joy, and I hope these works, and the accompanying poem, can spark something within you as she did for me.

Chosen prices are a direct correlation of time spent creating. Some paintings take 10 hours and some take several months of 60+ hours of work plus dry times between layers. The value, rarity and ornateness of each frame (or lack thereof) is also taken into account.

To preserve the beauty and longevity of your artwork, keep away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperature changes. Paintings and prints should only be displayed and stored in stable environments, to avoid warp of canvas stretcher bars or paper.

Handle all pieces with care using clean, dry hands, and avoid contact with liquids or harsh chemicals. For maintenance, gently dust surfaces with a soft cloth. Proper care will help maintain the color, texture, and integrity of each piece for years to come.
